Focus on Complex Carbs
Carbohydrates are often viewed as being bad when attempting to lose weight. After all, they provide your body with glucose, which is commonly associated with weight gain. But like fats, not all carbs are made equal. Simple carbs, such as processed sugars and white bread, are broken down more quickly once consumed. Therefore, they tend to cause blood sugar spikes. Complex carbs, on the other hand, are broken down more slowly, allowing for long-term, sustainable energy that doesn’t contribute to weight gain.
Try to avoid consuming heavily processed foods, opting for natural foods instead. This means avoiding packaged and processed snacks. While it’s probably easier to grab a packaged snack, it won’t offer the same nutritional value as a piece of fresh fruit or vegetables. And if you want to lose weight, packaged foods will only hinder your efforts by supplying your body with empty calories and little or no nutritional value.
