You can prevent this form happening, however, by following a few simple steps.

Lose Weight Slowly

The key to preventing sagging skin is to lose weight slowly and gradually. Rather than trying to drop 5 pounds a week, for example, aim for just 5 pounds a month. Over the course of a year, that’s a total weight loss of 60 pounds. By losing weight slowly, your skin will adapt to your changing figure, resulting in tighter, firmer skin that’s less likely to sag.

Moisturize Skin Daily

Moisturizing your skin at least once a day — preferably twice daily — can also prevent sagging skin during weight loss. When your skin is moist, it’s able to stretch without injuring the tissue. Unfortunately, millions of people suffer from chronically dry skin that lacks the necessary moisture content for proper elasticity. If your skin is dry, it will likely retain its shape during weight loss. You can keep your skin tight, however, by using a moisturizing cream or lotion at least once a day. Just remember to apply it throughout your entire body to reap these benefits.

Eat More Collagen-Boosting Foods

Including more collagen-boosting foods in your diet will increase your skin’s elasticity. Collagen is the primary protein used to make connective tissue in the body. According to Wikipedia, it’s the most abundant protein in humans, accounting for roughly one-third of the average person’s protein content. If you have low levels of collagen, however, you body won’t be able to efficiently build and repair skin tissue. As a result, you may experience sagging, lose skin during or shortly after losing weight.

You can increase your body’s collagen levels by consuming more of the following foods:

  • Blueberries
  • Kiwis
  • Nuts
  • Avocados
  • Carrots
  • Oysters
  • Salmon
  • Olive oil

Drink Water

Stay away from sodas and other sweetened beverages, and instead drink water. Water helps to lubricate your joints while also flushing toxins from your body. Most importantly, it hydrates your skin and discourages water retention. These effects can reduce the risk of sagging, loose skin during weight loss.
