Creating youthful, vibrant skin is actually easier than you may realize. Some people assume they have to invest hundreds or thousands of dollars into expensive creams. In reality, though, there are simple changes you can make to your daily lifestyle. So, if you want to improve the appearance and overall health of your skin, consider the following tips.

Drink More Water

Statistics show that nearly two-thirds of adults in the United States are chronically dehydrated. When you don’t drink enough water, it affects your body in multiple ways, one of which is making your skin less elastic. To prevent this from happening, try to get into the habit of drinking at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day.

Clean Up Your Home

Indoor air pollution is a serious threat to your health — but it’s also something that many men and women overlook. Particulate matter in the air clogs the pores, contributes to breakouts and blemishes, and promotes early aging. Thankfully, you can protect your skin from indoor air pollution by maintaining a clean home. Some steps you can take to clean up the air inside your home include changing the air filter, opening the windows, avoiding scented candles and air fresheners, vacuuming regularly and decorating with houseplants.

Maintain Humidity

What’s the humidity level inside your home? If you can’t answer this question, you aren’t alone. The truth is that most people are unaware of the humidity level inside their home. When humidity levels fall below 40%, however, it can dry out your skin and subsequently make it susceptible to injury. So, use a humidity gauge to determine exactly how humid your home is. And if it begins to drop to 40%, use a humidifier to add moisture vapor back to the air.

With that said, excessively high humidity levels can be equally as bad. When humidity increases to 60% or higher, mold begins to form.

Eat More Fruits and Vegetables

There are countless reasons why you should be eating more fruits and vegetables in your diet. It promotes a healthy weight, strengthens your immune system, fights disease and illness and more. Additionally, fruits and vegetables promote healthy skin function by neutralizing harmful chemicals and compounds known as free radicals. Free radicals, when left unchecked, cause a destructive oxidation cycle that contributes to early aging. By increasing your consumption of antioxidant-rich foods, such as fruits and vegetables, you’ll protect your skin from free radicals and the harm they cause.
